This mountain is part of the Mont Blanc range, however is less popular among tourists. The highest peak here is a little bit more 3,500 meters, however in terms of panoramic views this mountain will serve you no less than Mont Blanc. Two of the peaks are preferred among hikers, especially the Petit Dru, which has been climbed for more than 150 years.

If you are the type to admire steep rocks in narrow gorges, France has got your back with one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. The river Verdon flows through the French Alps, creating this bright green canyon, as deep as 700 meters in some parts. The color of the river is unmistakable – a bright turquoise painting this unforgettable and picturesque scenery. Normandy. One of the richest regions in terms of history and culture in France. This province on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean hides one of its best-kept secrets right under the nose of resort guests near the farming town of Etretat. The white cliffs right at the resort beach have drawn famous writers here for decades – Monet and Maupassant among the regulars. These beautiful rock formations are here to remind you of nature’s force – the best artist of all times. The waters of the Atlantic ocean have created three beautiful and extremely high arches and have grinded down a nearby rock so much that locals literally call it “the needle”. A one-day trip and you will get a day at the beach admiring the beauty and power of water.

For a more laid-back experience where you are still surrounded by fascinating nature, consider Lake Annecy. You will not believe the scenery of this lake, the color of the waters, the density of the green fields around. One of the largest in France, this lake is also the cleanest in Europe. String local and governmental regulations applied decades ago, make sure that the area is preserved for years to come and not in harm by visitors. If the name of this section doesn’t already tell you what we will start with… The Verdon Gorge – a true paradise for those who seek a little bit of adrenaline during an all-about-nature trip to France. Explore the gorge and the surrounding rocks by rock climbing, fly fishing, canoeing, paragliding and so on. The possibilities are endless! For groups there is also a possibility to go rafting, you can also rent bikes and book a private tour guide to lead you through some of the best views in Europe along a few of the hiking/cycling trails in the area. A real breath-taking experience!

If you have a way of communicating with animals, and you always appreciate their majestic aura, you need to go horseback riding in Provence. Riding through the vineyards with the Atlantic ocean to one side and decades-old chateaus to the other, this really sounds like a fairytale. After the ride, enjoy the local taste of cheeses, fruits and wine, usually organized by the wineries in the region and don’t forget to ask all your questions because the French love the attention as well as the curiosity towards their culture and traditions.

In the territories around the little town of Annecy and the lake of the same name, except for admiring the beauty from the side, you could also sunbathe on one of the platforms along the coast. Watersports are also a popular activity here, but are limited to scuba diving, paddle boarding or wakeboarding. Renting a boat or yacht is also possible, although quite expensive.

Last but not least, although away from nature, consider a short visit to the town of Annecy where you could literally drown in the stories of the locals. The town is flourishing with clean streets, small but colorful and beautiful houses and of course – French croissants fresh from the local bakery. The architecture of the houses is traditional and left a cultural print throughout European buildings.

Best time to visit

The interior and northern part of the country have less hot days than the Riviera, therefore making it possible to enjoy the sunny weather without the hot weather during summer in Paris for example. The spring is a good choice, especially the months of April and May as it is warm enough to enjoy nature, but not too hot to make a short walk unbearable (moderate temperatures of 15° - 20°C).
