The nature house is freely located among meadows and overlooks a nature reserve (Natura 2000 area Van Oordt's Merskens). In the immediate vicinity are forests, heathland and waterways. Wildlife can be seen regularly; from mid-February to autumn dozens of storks (with their nests) can be found on the meadows and in the trees. A 5-minute walk from the Spronk is a small hiking forest. De Spronk is an excellent starting point for walking and cycling routes. The nearest villages with amenities are Beetsterzwaag (3km) and Gorredijk (3km). A little further away are Drachten (12km) and Heerenveen (18km). Nearby are nice stores with tasty local products.
