Flora and fauna of Greece

Greece is an overly civilized and densely populated country, and for 8 thousand years there are few animals left here, most of all here are small animals, such as badgers, hares and porcupines. Large animals include bear, fox, wild boar, and lynx. The monk seal and the Mediterranean turtle are represented almost only in the Red Book. Snakes and lizards feel most at ease in Greece, this is facilitated by the hot climate.

Among the birds you can see partridges, kingfishers and wild ducks, and birds of prey such as eagles and owls are also found. Well, the marine world is represented by a wide variety of fish, molluscs and gulls on the shore. Despite the dry climate and the absence of large rivers, there are about six thousand plant species in Greece, moreover, about 750 of them can be found only in Greece. The pride of the local flora is the olive tree; in general, Greek olives are considered the best. But in fact, the bones of this tree in ancient times were brought here by seafarer Phoenicians.

In general, the country earns no less on citrus fruits and olives than on tourists and sailing. Since Greece is located in a subtropical climate, the corresponding plants, citrus fruits, and even the date palm grow here. Another pride of the country is the walnut, from the immature ones they make medicinal jam, and the mature ones, in addition to the usual use, are also allowed to use nut butter.

The pine forests on the Halkidiki peninsula feel good. Unfortunately, since antiquity, forests have been almost destroyed, and now they occupy no more than 12 percent of the entire territory. Oaks, cypresses, plane trees and pines feel great here. In addition, an unusual plant grows here - mastic pistachio, from the squeezed juice of this pistachio, a transparent varnish is obtained with which the paintings are covered.

Diving in Greece

Greece is called the land of sunken ships. Descent to the sunken ancient and not so ships is quite an exciting experience. But everyone should not forget that the lifting and removal of monuments of art and culture from Greece is punishable(up to two years in prison). Those who like to explore the seabed can dive under the water and enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of caves and ancient cities, reefs, meet scorpion fish, octopuses, lobsters, and if diving to great depths, it is possible to get acquainted with fish - a sword and tuna. The water lantern will be proof that the water caves are not as gloomy as they might seem at first glance. They are filled with the most diverse life.

Island cruises on yachts

The most popular and beloved form of entertainment in Greece is seaside yacht trips. If you are planning your vacation in Athens, then we definitely recommend taking a cruise trip to the nearby islands. The picturesque island of Aegina, home to a pine grove, pistachio plantations and pine grapes. You can see all the beauty of the legendary Temple of the Goddess Athena Afea. The majestic Temple of Saint Nektarios is also a big plus for religious tourism to Aegina. Near the coast of the Peloponnese is the island of Poros, which is immersed in the luxurious and luscious green of lemon trees, the aroma of which is saturated with all the air on the island. There is another small charming island called Hydra, which is also worth adding to the list of places to visit. It is forbidden to travel on the island by wheeled vehicles, as this is the homeland of merchants - gardeners. Hydra is a historical place, the captains of which played a decisive role in the struggle for the country's independence. All Greek artists love to rest on this island.
