Cottages in Hallerbos

Hallerbos, also known as the Bluebell forest, is located in Flemish Brabant, Belgium. The popularity of this forest comes from the fact that it appears as if it is covered with a thick carpet of bluebells during their bloom time in spring. During this time is when most visitors come to the forest.

We offer our clients a chance to stay in close proximity to Hallerbos, while still enjoying the possibility to explore other amazing natural wonders in Belgium. Our cottages in the area are equipped to ensure your comfort and our hosts are there to advise you on the best spots to visit. Nevertheless, contactless stay is also available, if this is something you are more comfortable with.

Nature in and nearby Hallerbos

Definitely the best time of the year to visit Hallerbos is in April. There are a few reasons why this forest gains so much attention. One of them, of course, is the fact that the population of bluebells is enormous and it covers almost the whole area of the park – 500 ha. The second reason is the especially beautiful blooming period when the bluebells are in full glory. This is also the period when the young leaves of the beeches are in their most beautiful form – light green and almost transparent – and the whole forest has this unique hue when the sun hits the tree crowns. Last but not least, another reason is the population of giant Sequoia trees.

King Albert I park is also nearby on the bank of the Brussel-Charleroi canal in Halle. And another 5 km away from the city, a place draws people in for its enchanting scent. On this old castle estate, which was turned into a private home some decades ago, a rose garden has been created. This rose garden is famous for its more than 3,000 rose types, gathered from all over the world.

What can you do in the Hallerboss?

Walking through the forest is an unforgettable experience. You might be lucky enough to meet some of its inhabitants such as rabbits and deer. However, don’t forget that it is prohibited to leave the marked paths! This rule has been imposed to ensure the preservation of the flowers. You can still enjoy the forest but with nature on your mind! Some of the trails are also suitable for cycling and they are marked as so. Also on the park premises, you can visit the Hallerbos forest museum where experts will teach you much more about the nature of this unique forest in Belgium. Also check out our other cabins in the Belgium forest.

Nearby Hallerbos, almost 100 ha await visitors in this recreational park, part of the 19th century chateau’s estate. Provinviedomein Huizingen incorporates woods, walking and cycling paths and a pond where you can spend a day swimming or on a boat. There are more than 1,200 plant and flower species living across the park. Furthermore, this park is children and sports-friendly. As well as many playgrounds, it also meets visitors with sport facilities such as a mini-golf course and even an outdoor pool with waterslides.
