The nature of Devon

The seaside of Devon is known as the English Riviera. Some of the most beautiful beaches in the United Kingdom are situated here. For example, the north coast’s most famous beach is called Woolacombe. It represents a beautiful coastal area, suitable for various beach and water activities.

In order to admire the natural beauty of dunes, head to Saunton Sands – one of the most impressive dune systems in the country. Two different estuaries create a natural border of the beach to the south and create a picturesque landscape perfect for your sunset walks.

Mid Devon is where you should go if you want to find yourself in the middle of a green paradise. The lush vegetation, dense woods, rivers and wildlife create an unmatched atmosphere, which nature enthusiasts tend to fall in love with. Dartmoor National Park is one of the two parks in Mid Devon. It is famous mainly for the large number of archaeological artefacts scattered across its rich landscape. The other park – Exmoor – is among the most beautiful and romantic places in the UK. From the park premises, a beautiful panorama opens to the Bristol Channel.

What to do in Devon

If you decide to visit Exmoor National Park, don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit the small villages along the coast. These villages are “locked up” in the cliffs above the water, have subliminal architecture and a breathtaking view of the Channel. If you prefer a wilder experience of the county, the two national parks also welcome visitors to more than a dozen animal zoos, shelters and aquariums.

Did you know that there is a manmade waterfall in Devol? You can hike to its top through the woodland. There are two trails – the regular one, which is suitable for more experienced hikers; and the one, which is suitable for families with children. In the waterfall area, there is also a fern garden with fairies and an adventure playground also suitable for families.

If hiking is not as thrilling to you as cycling, Devon will not disappoint you either. There is a 300 km route for cycling named Tarka Trail. It is divided in stages, so don’t worry if your bike has collected some dust over the past year. This trail allows you to fully explore and enjoy the unspoiled nature of the Devon countryside along the almost vertical cliffs to the Channel.
