Holiday parks Sicily
Adventure in Italy sounds fun, right? Imagine a holiday spent exploring the nature parks of Italy’s famous island, Sicily! This Mediterranean piece of paradise is known for its cultural and historical significance for the country. Nevertheless, its nature is often overlooked. We are sure you are to some extent familiar with the island from famous movies such as The Godfather; however, these movies do not do justice to the real beauty of the island.
Sicily is home to some of the most beautiful parks in Italy – a real wilderness oasis. You can enjoy the wonderful weather and explore the natural wonders of the island on your next holiday. Our accommodation options on the island come with stunning locations – nearby national parks, nature reserves and much more. You can enjoy your holiday in one of our nature houses without stress: they are equipped with everything you might need!
The nature of Sicily
Two unique natural wonders of the island are Zingaro and Vendicari Nature Reserves. The latter is situated in the southeast part of the island where you will find beautiful beaches and peaceful sights. The whole Vendicari Reserve is covered with dunes and lagoons, as well as numerous exotic animal species. During the migrating period, many birds pass through the reserve on their way to and from Africa. If you visit during the right time, you will be able to see hundreds of flamingos, herons, storks and many others.
Zingaro Reserve on the other hand is the first nature reserve on the island and encompasses a series of bays along the Gulf of Castellammare. This reserve offers visitors a chance to see rare animals, which cannot be found anywhere else on the island. On top of all that, there are archaeological sites of prehistoric villages in the reserve territory.
The first natural park, which draws the most tourist attention – is the Etna Park. The idea of this protected area is to conserve the environment around the volcano as it was and as it is – wild and beautiful. While many people visit the park and Etna, another mesmerizing park, our favorite from the island, is the Alcantara River Park which follows the river through the island, presenting visitors with gorges, cascades, waterfalls and much more.
Island activities
Hiking is one of the more popular activities for nature enthusiasts. There is a wide variety of trails to undertake. There are many routes: while some can be quite demanding, there are also easier options. Whichever trail you choose, rest assured that the views at its end and along are worth the walk. One of the routes we recommend is the Zingaro Loop from Macari. It is not the easiest, but it follows the beautiful Zingaro coast!
Scuba diving is also a popular activity on the island. If you decide to go scuba diving, you will have a chance to explore the marine life underwater, just as well as the wilderness above it. If you are looking for at least one day of a laid back experience, head to Isola Bella beach, a small island at the feet of Taormina with crystal clear waters; the island is becoming more and more popular, so we suggest you head there early!
