The province of Cuenca is not far east of the city of Madrid. In the east of the region lies the hilly nature reserve Serrania de Cuenca. The west of the province is flatter and drier. From your cottage in Cuenca you can visit the most beautiful nature reserves in the province. You can also visit the city of Cuenca while staying in a holiday home. In the city there are some sights to be found. There is a museum, for example, which is located on the edge of a steep cliff. In the old town there are some historic buildings, such as the town hall and several cathedrals.

Nature in Cuenca

The Serrania de Cuenca nature reserve, in the east of the province, should be visited while staying in a holiday home. The nature reserve is very varied. You will find rivers winding through hilly forest areas, but also steep cliffs and gorges. There are several picturesque villages in the area, which are situated on top of the cliffs. There are several other beautiful nature reserves in the province. Further south is the large lake Embalse de Alarcón and in the far north of Cuenca is the Embalse de Buendia.

In nature reserves you can encounter the beautiful green coloured pearl lizard. In addition, during a walk from your holiday home, you should definitely pay attention to the many plants that can be found in Cuenca. Among other things, the nodding nailwort and spider orchid are found in the province. Hops, bee-eaters and red-headed claws are some of the many colourful bird species that you may encounter during a stay in a holiday home. The butterfly lover will not be bored either. In the summer you can encounter dozens of species, including the Spanish checkerboard, the blue kingfisher butterfly and the small ranger.
