In the town of Elche you will find the largest palm grove in Europe and was declared Unesco heritage status in 2000. For avid cooks, Santa Pola has a port where fresh fish can be bought at the end of the day. Also in Santa Pola, take the boat to Tabarca, an island where you can do great swimming, snorkeling and diving.Are you a birdwatcher? Then in the immediate vicinity you can encounter rare birds such as: the Stone Curlew, Roller, Cuckoo and of course Flamingos. Just under half an hour drive away is Parque Natural el Hondo (Parc Natural de El Fondo in Valencian), it is a wetland area that includes both permanent salt and fresh lakes, a beautiful area for hiking.
