This nature house is located at the top of a former pumping station built in 1876. The main entrance to the pumping station leads up the stairs, where you enter the living/living space with a nice couch and two desks overlooking the east and west. Ideal place to write, read or muse. The apartment also includes a bedroom with a made-up double bed, a walk-in closet and a bathroom with sink, tub, shower, towels and a toilet. Through the pumping station you enter downstairs into the generously equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, stove, oven, cooking utensils and dishes. The kitchen has a door to the outside, where it is nice to sit outside in one of the wicker chairs in all seasons. Enjoy the view of fishing kingfishers, swans, ducks and other waterfowl or prepare a meal on the grill ring set up on the decking. Also feel free to wander through the pumping station and enjoy the collections of Thom Mercuur, founder of Museum Belvedere in Heerenveen.

The nature house is located on the Hay Canal near nature reserve De Deelen. It is the ideal base for hiking, biking or boating. Also feel free to use the two canoes we have at the pumping station. In De Deelen you will find marshes, created by peat extraction and nowadays the natural habitat of the bittern, egret, swans and all kinds of other birds including the bald eagle. Nearby are places like Heerenveen, Gorredijk and Aldeboarn. There are as many waterways as land roads everywhere. In the summer, in the verges and along the water's edge, cow parsley, water mint, forget-me-nots, foxglove grow, and in the water pumpkinweed (water lilies) bloom. In the garden of the pumping station live wrens, great tits and swallows have made their nests under the eaves on the west. At any time of year it is wonderful to be outside in this area.
