Welcome to this romantic writers' cottage with lots of character that has defied the overwhelming nature around it since 1898. Except for the excellently equipped kitchen, practical bathroom and modern sleeping comfort, time has stood still there. There are books, records, DVDs and works of art to keep you entertained. Ideal to recover from the hustle and bustle and enjoy nature and the good things in life. It easily accommodates four guests and offers many recreational opportunities. In the garden there are several nice places to have aperitifs or laze around, and we'll also hand you the keys to the attached fishing hut on Vogelkreek. You will find peace and quiet within walking distance of the village of Hengstdijk with café and country store, and even by bike you can get to Kloosterzande for all your shopping. From here you can go to the market in Axel, do terraces in Hulst or Terneuzen, but just as well explore Walcheren. Do not be alarmed if you suddenly see a large freighter gliding through the landscape, the Westerschelde is nearby.

From the cozy nature house you have an unobstructed view of the endlessly stretching nature reserve De Grote Putting. A whimsical polder landscape with breeding grounds and restored original flora with water features and hiking trails. De Grote Putting is one of the few real old-land areas still known to Zeeland. The area is located in the Grote Hengstdijkpolder which was already reclaimed before 1161. In the summer months the Putting is mainly an area for meadow birds, such as lapwing, black-tailed godwit and avocet. In the winter months it is mainly large groups of kola, gray and Canadian geese that visit the area. At the front of the cottage you walk straight through the meadow to the accompanying, nicely decorated fishing cottage on the water - the Natura2000 area De Vogelkreek - where it is great aperitifing and/or angling. The Verdronken Land van Saefthinge and Groot Eiland are also nearby. Four kilometers away you are at the Westerschelde (swimming allowed) where it is great boat watching.
