Bungalow Dordogne
The beautiful French region of Dordogne is a popular destination, mainly familiar to tourists due to a famous cave with wall paintings dating around 17,000 years ago – Lascaux. The region however has a rich cultural and historical background and a traditional French ambience which should not be missed. The nature in the area is stunning – a vivid landscape of lush hills fed by a few rivers, one of which has given its name to the whole region.
If you want to immerse yourself in French nature and explore Dordogne in an authentic way – meeting with locals, enjoying the weather and discovering the natural wonders around you – then book yourself a bungalow! These bungalows are well equipped and comfortable. You will get a chance to relax and get away from modern problems and hot tourist points. Choose a bungalow from our list and enjoy our recommendations for natural wonders, which are a must-visit on your next trip to France.
Nature in Dordogne
The valley of Dordogne is one of the regions in the world with the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites! The riverbank of river Dordogne is a recognized UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, while the Lascaux cave network is undoubtedly a heritage we must preserve. The river Dordogne travels for more than 500 km through this French territory, creating an unseen and unspoiled landscape, which the French hold dear to their hearts.
Even though Dordogne is a popular Mediterranean beach holiday destination, there is another side to it. Many nature enthusiasts are surprised to find out the huge number of lakes, waterfalls and springs scattered around the area, all of which often turn into beach areas in the summer, too. The list of prehistoric caves of course is not exhausted with simply mentioning Lascaux. There are many more, but we strongly advise you to pay a visit to Grotte des Merveilles or the Padirac Cave – both are stunning in their own way and deserve your time and attention!
Activities to try
The list of activities to try in Dordogne is almost endless. Any activity gives you a chance to explore the area in a different way and to cherish its beauty. Although cars are the main transport around here and we strongly advise you to use them in order to be able to explore most of the Dordogne valley, a bit of exercise is always something we love to add on our nature vacations.
Cycling and hiking are the two most popular activities in the region. You can explore the countryside by taking the country lanes; cycle through the valleys and meadows and discover the diverse landscape of Dordogne; or take one of many cycle paths and find out more about the region’s culture and history by passing by and learning about all the renaissance towns and castles. Canoeing and kayaking, as well as golf and paddle boarding, are other popular activities for the summer. But for those who prefer to come face to face with adrenaline, we suggest you try paragliding – enjoy a bird’s view of the whole valley!
