Bed and breakfast Iceland
Iceland is a Nordic country in the North Atlantic Ocean, known for its arctic beauty and volcanic activity. Despite its distance from continental Europe, Iceland is gaining popularity among nature enthusiasts looking for their next unique destination. The country has so much to offer to those who dare to explore its volcanic ground and you can see for yourself on your next trip by booking a bed and breakfast accommodation in Iceland!
Tourism is very important to locals and most of the accommodation options on the island include farmhouses, cottages and small family villas or hotels. Bed and breakfast lodging is one of the most popular choices for a trip to this arctic paradise, as having your breakfast all set and ready in the morning lets you enjoy a full relaxation in your place of stay, all while being close to nature and the life of the local population.
Discover the beauty of Arctic nature
There are more than 130 volcanoes mapped in the country; Thrihnukagigur is a dormant volcano and the only one in the world which you can explore from inside as its chamber is accessible; Grimsvotn, on the other hand is anything but welcoming and in fact is the most volatile system currently in Iceland; las but not least, Hekla volcano is among the most famous ones, it is known as “Gateway to hell” and is considered the most unpredictable of them all.
The three national parks in Iceland are Vatnajökull National Park, Snæfellsjökull National Park, and Þingvellir National Park. Vatnajökull National Park consists of the glacier of the same name and its surrounding territories. The glacier is the largest in the world outside of the arctic territories. The whole park area varies in terms of landscape – there is a highland plateau, glacial rivers, a volcanic table and three volcanoes. Glaciel floods have carved a canyon in the north parts of the plateau and have formed the grounds for the appearance of a mighty waterfall – Dettifoss.
Dettifoss is another spectacular nature attraction in Iceland. This waterfall has been recognized as the most powerful in Europe not so much due to its height (only 40 m), but more for its width – 100 m. Enormous amounts of water fall down every minute and the amazing sight is reachable on a day trip from Akureyri.
Activities
There are hundreds of sightseeing tours that pass through volcanic territories, such as the guided 4 hour tour around the Reykjanes Peninsula for an expedition through Seltun Geothermal Area and Lake Kleifarvatn. Another unforgettable experience is a jeep tour which will take you to the craters of North Iceland.
Glaciers are essentially slowly moving rivers of ice, which have covered big parts of Iceland’s territory. Except for a trip to see them from outside, during mid-October to March you can explore the so-called natural glacier ice caves – a truly unforgettable experience.
Iceland is a land of many possibilities for an activity-driven trip. Those who love adrenaline are bound to fall in love with this country. Except for skiing and snowboarding, you can go snowmobiling, ice climbing or dog sledding through the wildest areas on the island. Moreover, hiking through the summer or winter is an amazing way to explore the glaciers. The glacial rivers provide options for wet adventures such as kayaking, scuba diving, rafting and surfing.
