Switzerland farm

In the heart of Europe, a country famous for its natural wonders, Switzerland greets visitors with great weather and an even greater nation. A combination of high mountain peaks and lush green fields will welcome you and bring you as close to nature and the Swiss way of living as you could ever be.

What better way to immerse yourself in the reality of life underneath the gigantic Alps, than spending a few days with a local family while staying in their farm? We have great options for those of you who wish to book accommodation in a farm – whether you are looking for a cottage in close proximity to the main house or an apartment which is part of it.

Nature and culture which go hand in hand

Numerous lakes, rivers and even waterfalls are among the list of must-visits for your trip to Switzerland. Among our favorites are Lauterbrunnen valley – hiker’s paradise and a territory filled with waterfalls – and Oeschinensee lake – a high glacier lake right underneath the peaks of Jungfrau-Aletsch.

The nature and culture of most regions is very distinctive; however nothing can beat the cultural characteristics of the canton of Ticino. This is the southernmost province in the country, in fact it is located on the other side of the Alps and most people will tell you it is an Italian territory. However, the uniqueness of this region is derived from its rich historical background and a cultural mix of Italian and Swiss customs and traditions.

Ticino is a popular farming livestock territory – there are thousands of farms across the area and tourists are not that many. Small alpine villages and beautiful landscapes look as if they are snuggled in the embrace of the great Alps. Rivers cross the valleys and create picturesque gorges, while some of the most popular lakes in Switzerland are located in the northern parts of Ticino and create beautiful panoramas of the peaks above them.

Activities

If you would like to feel the magnetism of mother nature, head to the mountains. The Saint-Gotthard Massif and the Jungfrau-Aletsch protected area provide numerous hiking options and some of the best ways to discover the Swiss mountains like a true local. Choose to travel through the great Alpine Panorama Trail and explore one of its seven paths across the Alps.

Head to St. Moritz to try the slopes (yes, there are dozens of them) and end the eventful day with traditional cuisine in a local restaurant. Talk to the owner and you will get all the interesting stories of the region as well as a well-prepared lecture of alpine architecture (some locals come from families of old house builders and know the details all too well).

For the adventure-seeking traveler, Switzerland can quickly become the opposite of a quiet and peaceful place. Head to one of the North Alps rivers during spring and ride some of the wildest cascades in Europe on board a raft (some of them are even recognized as class IV rapids).
